Vaquero or Tejon
Well, I know I want a new Tesoro, But cant decide between these two. What are the advantages and disadvantages between the two. As for what I hunt for, I hunt for anything thats in the ground.

Re: Vaquero or Tejon
I got the Tejon as it has a higher frequency (same as Lobo) and good for gold and anything else. Great depth.

Re: Vaquero or Tejon
Both of these are great detectors. I have the Tejon and it has more features that the Vaquero doesn't. For one thing it has two disc knobs or a notch if you wanna call it that. I set the first disc knob to just disc out small iron and the second one to disc out pull tabs. This way I can tell if the beep is better than iron and then check it with the second setting to see if it is a pull tab. Course it can also be a gold ring if it goes silent too, but at a beach I dig all signals.
This way I can decide if I want to get on my knees again depending how lazy I feel. I like the VCO type sound as the tone goes up in pitch the closer you get to the target while in pinpoint which is a trigger and not a button as on the V. By use of the trigger you can check the target in full all metal mode. You can also adjust the pitch of the tone. I've only used the Vaquero a few times while I worked in a detector shop but bought the Tejon instead and haven't been sorry. Now if only it was waterproof for diving...........

Re: Vaquero or Tejon
Love my Vaquero, runs smooth at the beach, hits coins hard and deep. Dug lots of relics at old home sites and civil war era plantations. Sandman uses the 2nd dics to help ID, I just thumb the disc. I don't think you would be dissapointed with either, just a matter of how many bells and whistles you want.

Re: Vaquero or Tejon
Since you have already decided on a Tesoro, we don't have to go over the whole vdi subject... I picked the Vaquero due to light weight and ease of use while not giving up depth. It goes every bit as deep as my MXT's, is super light, and only uses one battery. I cannot comment on the Tejon as I've never used one. But I have heard of more than one owner who had both units and ended up selling the Tejon. It was probably more due to lack of understanding the machine than performance benefits as I've heard the Tejon is a super relic machine... Either way they are fine detectors.
Go out with what you have and find what you have not...

Re: Vaquero or Tejon
Either, or. I love my Tejon but wouldn't hesitate for a second on buying a Vaquero. The Vaq. has a lower price and is easier in the battery dept. My buddy with a Vaq. and myself with a Tejon spent much of last year on a fur trade relic site. We both made wonderful finds. These are deep machines particularly in the spring with that wonderful moisture saturated ground. My bud had Grey Ghost headphones on and often went VCO mode. He pulled some great, often small relics, from surprisingly deep holes. We usually had those machines jacked up to instability, then tweeked back a hair.
