    Tesoro Vaquero...What are your thoughts?????

Been a while since I have posted on here but got a few questions about the Vaquero. I just purchased one and it is not in my possesion yet but could some of you compare it to other tesoro models from earlier production? I have had the silver sabre 2, conquistador, eldorado, and original bandito. These machines were fun but I did notice I seemed to dig alot of iron sometimes. How does the Vaquero's discrimination compare to these older models? Can anyone tell me if the depth seems better? Is there any improvements overall on the discrimanation with the vaquero and digging less junk compared to the older models? How about the higher frequency with the new H.O.T. technology? Does it seem to be a better performing detector all the way around than the previous models from the past or does it seem to be the same? I have had alot of time under my belt with different name brand detectors but all of the things I have read about the Vaquero makes me look forward to getting this one I just purchased very much. Thanks in advance, Tim

Re: Tesoro Vaquero...What are your thoughts?????

I have used my vaq for a couple years now and I really like it. when I used to hunt older homesites and such, I set the disc where foil would be and I never once dug up a nail and only bigger pieces of foil would I find. It struggles with bottlecaps and loves pulltabs. A great machine

Also I wouldn't worry about the depth. I generally do relic hunting with mine and I have pulled out 1/2" musketballs, well, I dare say at more that 10" (that's about max too). This thing is a depth hog in all-metal. When supertuned it goes deep in the disc mode too, but you can also expect to start digging a little iron.

That sounds pretty promising about the disc so far. Also 1/2" musket balls at 10 plus inches is not too shabby either. I relic hunt some but mostly coinshoot. I remember even with only one tone that I could tell a coin with the other tesoro's I have owned. Looking forward to it, thanks for your input cokat7.

You are going to love the Vaquero. Your going to love the zero motion pinpoint the Vaquero uses. It ground balances real easy and I can't understand why some hunters fear that so much. It is also quite deep and not chirpy like the AT Pro. It won't make noise till you are on a target. It disc very well but naturally large iron will give over load the disc circuit to make it respond. Alum screw caps are very conductive so you will dig those just like you would with other detectors. Invest is a good set of earphones, and I mean good. I use Black Widow's but Killer Bee's and Grey Ghosts are very fine too.

    Very well said.

When I first bought my vaquero I admit to being intimidated by the manual ground balance, With a little research as to how to do it before the machine arrived, I balanced it in about 15 or 30 seconds the first time. Now it is no more of an issue than it is to turn the machine on.

The V is a fantastic all around hunter and the ground balance is a huge plus also. I had hunted a yard of a place that I used to live with my cibola and cleaned house. I thought it was hunted out till I bought a v and it was like a new yard again. I was pulling buffalo nickles and silver dimes like crazy. The soil was rough the ground balance made all of the differnce in the world.
    God and country.
