Nothing wrong with using the Vaquero in a creek, just don't get the controls wet. Important not to raise the coil above the controls as water in shaft will flow toward controls.

Just don't dunk it when you go to dig. Listen closely to what sandman said, because if you set the detector down wrong water on the coil and shaft will run right down the shaft and into the coil connector. If freshwater hunting really interest you get a Tiger Shark and then you won't have to worry about getting it wet.
