I am up in Illinois and max depth for this very forgiving ground is about 6" dry and close to 8" after a good rain in A/M

Like other detectors, it is variable with different soils . Here in inert Florida soil, mine [ 7" coil ] about 8" is correct & is probably about the max, anywhere.

Here are my thoughts after a short hunt this afternoon with the Compadre.
1) Deepest target was a dime at 6" it was a hunted out spot that I had hit with my Outlaw before so not a lot of targets.
2) The discrimination was amazing - I liked it better than the Outlaw and that one is pretty damn good.
3) just having the discrimination felt odd at first. But it was easy to get used to.
4) I did miss the ability to pinpoint. I didn't realize how much I used that on my Outlaw.

It is really rather complicated! A general rule of thumb to remember: depth=diameter of coil... Rain and moist soil add 1" or so...
So we could say an 8 inch coil in the rain is 9"
But there are other factors that add or subtract...
The difference between accepting nickels on disc and max disc is about 1/2"...
A silver dollar can be detected much further than a clad dime!
How your machine is balanced to the ground : adding or detracting to distance!
How long has the coin been in the soil...
These maximums with a concentric coil would require large overlap of swing to get coverage...
Your results may vary... Because machines vary and coil must be tuned to detector...
