I've had so much fun with my compadre. I originally bought it for my wife. But after using it, I seem to like it much better then my bounty hunter platinum. I decided to try another tesoro. This time I ordered a deleon. Should be here Friday. Got a smoking deal brand new. Could not pass it up. love to here from people that have this machine. Any tips? How you like it, etc..

The Tesoro DeLeon has been my main machine for 5 or 6 years now.....it crapped out on me the last hunt of 2014.....I put in fresh batteries this spring and checked the connections but it wouldn't come on....made some great finds with it over the years....sensitivity at 8 and knock out only iron....

All the rings in my avatar were found with it.....I'll be sending it back for repairs and using the Fisher F75 in the meantime....a great turn on and go machine with an easy learning curve.

One good thing about the tesoro. Lifetime warranty! You will be right back at it again. I've read some pretty good Reviews and depth seems to be good too.

Thought this was a pretty cool feature or the DeLeon (I'm sure the Cortes is the same)!

Iron Washer or Odd-Shaped Iron:
Odd-shaped iron targets or iron targets that have holes can fool many machines. As it starts to pass under the edges of the coil, it produces a signal that looks like a silver coin. But as it nears the center of the coil, the signal shifts to a more traditional iron signal. Notice the following two illustrations. In the first, the bar graph shows a small peak in the silver bar and the ID number reads 0. In the second, the bar graph shows iron but the ID number reads 85.




The thing that both of these illustrations have in common is that various segments of the display do not "agree" with each other. This is a sure sign that you are detecting an odd-shaped piece of iron.

Eddy currents follow a complete circle (like a coin shape) when that circle is broken (or just odd shaped) the eddy current drops off. This may confuse the machine and cause jumpy tones/ID #s

Your right.

The tesoro is setup for this from from what the directions show. If it is showing an iron graph and a high coin number you know thats is some odd shape or piece of iron. Same goes if it shows zero(iron) and a graph in the coin range. There is only one tone with the deleon. We will see when it arrive friday. Ill have to bury some steel washers in the ground and see if it does as the instructions say. If so that will be a great help for not digging junk.

The the TID is setup for better I'd of mid range targets.
Iron is (0) and only (0)
copper and up,dimes quarters silver is all (95) Id number.
that leaves (1-94) for mid range targets.
So that gives you a nice number gap from nickel to pulltab.

a #95 indicates copper and up thru silver.
So if it hits a #95 you dig because its going to be a goodie!

And it works great! Son and I Just took it to a ball field by our house to give it a little run. We were only out there about an hour just to try it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this thing!! This is our take in a short time period. $3.16 in clad. No silver found but a few were 1966 coinage. Close only a couple years off. We are going to hit it again soon and really work the area when we have more time. I only had the sensitivity on 4 and we dug a few down to 5". I was just cherry picking. I turned the disc up past zinc. I didn't feel like digging down 4 or 5 inches for zinc. I dug only #95 which is all that rang up after zinc anyway.
By having the ID set that way gives it much more of a mid range so iding other mid range targets are more accurate. So you have more of a number gap between things that are close, like a nickel and pulltab which are with in a couple number of each other in other detectors.
A nickel is around #26 or #27 where a pull tab is around #35 or #36 on my Deleon.
See what I am getting at?

IH penny will ID as a zinc penny on many detectors (as will a large gold ring) so If I am in an older area, I will dig all the zinc signals, as not to miss an one. If I am looking for gold rings in highly populated area, I will dig a lot, if not most zinc signals at least. It does suck though.

We didn't have much time so we just went for the clad. I'll be going back and will not discrim later on. They are just starting to play ball around here so it will be packed on weekends. Maybe I'll hit it during the week. One good thing about working nights! ;-)

Man I love this Deleon!! The more I use it the more I am loving it. Hit a tot lot today. Got about $2.44 in change ( my change is starting to add up )! Also found a cross and a Sterling silver bear with 11 tiny diamonds in it. 7 chocolate diamonds in the belly and 2 in the paws and 2 regular ones in the feet. Think it came off a necklace? Im going to go have it checked out. My oldest son has a bounty hunter tracker 4 and got a high hit. I was there and checked it with my Deleon. was hitting #95 then dropping back to zinc. I said to him thats weird its hitting high like copper or dime quarter and then dropping down to zinc # . I told him dig it lets see what it is. So he did and found a penny. I went back over the plug and bing another target. he dug around and found another penny. I said wave a penny over my detector, it rang high #95 meaning it was copper the other rang as zinc. So the Deleon told me there where two targets in that hole and Id them perfectly!

The DeLeon will ID zincs and that range separate from other coins. Woodknack is right about digging the #95. Nearly always a goodie, been very reliable on my D.

We went out to the ball field again for about an hour and a half. I need a pin pointer. I'd be faster but I'm happy. She is a coin magnet. Battery life on this is super. Today's take.

Im loving this thing! I am going on my 3rd week with it and mostly just hunt on weekends. So for have found $22.64 in clad a silver bear pendant worth about $50 and a bunch of earrings and a bracelet not really worth anything. I just went out to a local ball field near me for one hour and came home with another $1.57 and I was hunting around the outside of the back of the ball field near the woods. I didn't think id even find anything back there. She is a coin magnet for sure!!

Oh and did I mention battery life?! Amazing. I'm still on the original set sent with the detector. And out of eight bars it has only dropped 2 bars! I keep saying I'm going to buy some rechargeable batteries but I keep putting it off because these still have plenty of life left.

Rechargeable batteries only charge to about 1.2V, compared to ~1.57 of a fresh alkaline. So a full charge will only give about 75% of the energy stored in a fresh alkaline.
Just something to consider. Rechargeable might more environmentally friendly though.

My detectors are pretty good on batteries, so I use brand name alkaline until they wear down a bit (~50% on the indicator), then I remove them and use them up in other devices like the GPS and flashlights etc.

If your detector is hard on batteries, then rechargeable might the way to go, just be sure to have a full charge before you head out.

Yes I can see what you mean. I did buy a set to try out. seem to work ok but it didn't top out on the battery detector gauge.

BUT I DID FIND MY FIRST SILVER COIN TODAY WITH IT!!!!!!
And my Nephew was using my compadre and he found one too!!
I dug the 1950 rosie and he got the 1963 rosie. I'll have to try the Vaquero out there soon.
