Hi Terry,

The last new detector I purchased in the 80's was the Tesoro Royal Sabre. I still had it when I returned to the hobby, but after setting in my attic with a tin roof for over 30 years it was fried. If I recall correctly that was the introduction of "Notch Discrimination" in all of detecting.

Last week I found one for sale and have it in hand right now - just like new. I've only checked it to make sure it works = AND IT DOES :)

That beast will go with me on my next hunt, while my CTX cools its' heels :)

My CTX battery charge died during a hunt today, and I borrowed a Compadre to finish the day out. Just about as simple, inexpensive, and capable machine there is on the market today.

Terry, my first Tesoro had radio tubes and the microwave hadn't been invented yet.

Now that you're done choking, no, it didn't have radio tubes. But microwaves were very expensive at that time. I got my first one I think in 1989.

My first Tesoro was an Inca. The Fisher 1260X came out around then and I bought one. The 1260X stayed in the truck as a back up to the Inca with a 11 inch loop on the civil war battlefields of Tennessee and Georgia. My second Tesoro was an metal box Eldorado and it was almost as good as todays machines

My hunting partner, Indian Steve swings a Tejon while I swing the CTX. For me the CTX is a very slow machine, not in it's quick circuitry, but in the time I'm playing with the signal, pinpointing, and then digging. Steve will have two targets dug while I'm still digging one. So he always kicks my butt. That's one reason I grabbed the Royal Sabre when it became available.

I just took my new Sabre in my backyard for about 20 minutes. I've searched that backyard for about 34 years. I probably just didn't pass over the target before.

But I found a 1950 wheat cent :) Kinda crusty with red dirt, so I just stuck in in a potato to clean it - I read that on a link here the other day :)

Thank you TreasureNet!

First off, the CTX is a great detector, but it's not a competition machine, and I'm keeping it.

My hunting buddy, Indian Steve uses a Tejon, and ALWAYS kicks my butt in number of finds.

Courtesy of Ammoman, and Terry will be proud of me :)

And of course my buddy:
