Inside the house or outside?
Could be excessive EMI if testing indoors.
I would retest outdoors away from power lines.
If it's still seems weak it may need a tuneup.

Thanks Welgund, its one I got off ebay to slap around, my new black one is too pretty to leave the house lol.

Fuzzymaster, original owner has a lifetime warranty, but only $50 for checkup and they pay shipping back.

Do you have another coil to try?

New battery? More than 2 or 3 beeps when you turn it on?

I have all the Delta coils made by Tesoro. 5 beeps on battery.

I cant chew gum and walk at the same time, I was wondering if Fuzzymaster had exhausted other ideas.

The 11" all metal sounds alright, 6 on a penny aint no good.

11 penny all metal tends to make me think the coil is ok.

Wish someone could meet up with you to try another coil, let you look at their Vaquero. Any dealers or clubs nearby?

For grins try a copper penny, 1981 or earlier. 1982 pennies were both old copper and new zinc pot metal...

Try a quarter on disc.

TURN YOUR SENSITIVITY DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You LOSE depth if you use too much sensitivity. I almost NEVER use a sensitivity setting higher than 6-7. :occasion14:

With the sensitivity at 7
I get 6" on penny and just slightly better on a quarter.

FORGET the air tests! Go outside and start hunting - you'll thank me. :occasion14:

Terry, sounds good, but I would like to know my detector is working correctly. It definitely doesn't seem as strong as other vaqueros.

I think I will just take Terrys first suggestion, for now. If it wasn't for three straight days of rain, I would not have even messed with the air test. Thanks all

good advice..

TURN YOUR SENSITIVITY DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I found this to be true especially with my newer models like Outlaw and Vaquero, more than my older Tesoros. I think that the newer models offer more gain than the older ones, but that's just my theory. It's quite noticeable with my Outlaw, where I'll lose shallow quarters when sensitivity's too high.. If I notice that happening, I'll lower sensitivity and adjust GB a little more negative, which improves target response.

Wherever ground minerals are high, I need to run more positive on the ground balance to compensate. I then have to cut back on sensitivity, otherwise I won't get a good target response, especially on large, shallow coins. I think that's related to running so positive on the ground balance as well as the increased ground minerals reflecting more noise back to the detector.

If I'm hunting in a deep, compost type soil though, I can crank sensitivity high, run a negative ground balance... and see really good depth.

BTW - my Vaqueros airtest about 9" on a dime with the 5.75 concentric (pretty deep). They'll actually get about that same depth in the compost type soil, but lose a couple inches in more mineralized soils...like where I usually hunt. Good thing we have the GB and sensitivity adjustments.. I need to adjust my machines several times while I hunt, as I go from real "soil" in spots to fine gravel and rocky clay "dirt" in other areas.
