Chattering

Anyone know what would cause my Tesoro Cibola to constant chatter and make noise ? I replaced battery and bought new coil it’s still doin it. They went out of buisness so I can’t send it back for repair wasn’t sure if anyone has a idea about what causes that

My Mojave chatters at times and it was mainly EMI around my house from Wifi or satelite tv. I go elsewhere and it stops.

Tried another coil to isolate if it's the box or coil?

Doesn't East Texas work on them now? Cant remember what was discovered.

I bought a brand new coil and put on it it did the same thing and the pinpoint button goes crazy if u hold it down. If you unplug the coil it stays beeeeping like one long tone until you plug it back in

First things first, don’t unplug the coil and turn it on, that’s a quick way to burn up your board. I’ve worked on enough Tesoro detectors in my time to see folks do that. The cibola I had did that, it was a wire loose on the board, fixed that problem, a few folks sent me there’s, and they had fried their boards by doing what you did. A metal detector is like a ray gun, you pull the trigger it shoots a pulse out, and back up. When you turn the machine on without the coil you take the chance of burning it up because it has no where to go.

Gotcha thanks I didn’t do it long so hopefully I can take it apart I guess and look for the loose wire I just had the shipping stopped because I sent it into Tesoro not knowing it was out of business I didn’t wana loose a brand new coil if anything

It won’t do any good taking it apart to look for a loose wire. More likely to create one doing that. I learned my lesson by thinking that I could replace the toggle switch on my Tejon. Barely was able just to get it back together and I knocked wire loose doing so! Keith Wills at brokendetector.com can fix your problem at a very reasonable price. He is a bonafide expert and fixes everything except Minelab.

I have 2 detectors that were cured from chattering with Deoxit. My T2 stopped after spraying the coil connector and using a Q-tip wetted with the same on the coil plug on the detector. My Conquistador chattered some all the time but worse when I turned the discrimination knob. I removed the faceplate and sprayed the disc potentiometer and blew it out with compressed air. The problem did not return. It is worth a try, as a can really does not cost very much. My T2 seemed much better afterwards also.
