Anyone ever gone detecting on Lake Lavon ?

Check in at the Corp of Engineer office when you enter.

If and I stress "If" they are in a good mood they will let you detect the picnic area.

Be careful there because the woods are full of Private Government Security on ATV's

I camp and fish off the highway down by the old railroad bridge just beyond their reach and control.

You need a 4W to get down there. It's a good place to metal detect too.

I think i did some fishing in the same place , just under the railroad bridge . Nice spot , too bad its loaded with pull tabs , i know i drank a load of beer last time i was there , but took my trash with me ..
What other lakes can i detect on here in the North Dallas area ?? I am very close to Lewisville lake..

If the Corp of Engineer's let you go anywhere but the picnic area.
Always check first because they love to write tickets and seize equipment.
Then there is always White Rock Lake, I have found a lot of stuff there, it has a lot of history.
I personally like the Trinity riverbeds, It takes a lot of research but there is a ton of stuff, especially if you know where the crossing points and ferry's were in the 1800's

I've got a permit and have been to both Lewisville and Lavon. Check in at the Corp office to get permits. A buddy found 1 gold and 1 silver ring at Lavon a few months back.. I've been hunting Lewisville but have found nothing of substance yet.

Actually White Rock Lake is owned by the city of Dallas and is maintained by the Parks and Recreation department.

I have never had a problem detecting there. the history of the lake is astounding and with all the activities there over the years, such as swimming, boating, the CCC barracks and then the housing of POW's there is much to find.
I have done a lot of research and have maps and original photo's that direct me to great spots.
Years ago I made some rather great finds at the original swimming area.
That area is of course off limits to swimming and the building is now a cultural center but I still find time on a sleepy sunday morning to detect the beach area and have never had any complaints.
Must be the orange vest and white hardhat I wear for fun and profit
I probably look just like some joe going about his pipe locating job
Surely no one would suspect me of being out there and having fun?

You'll need a permit from the Corp of Engrs first, and that's free. Then get mentally prepared for the pulltabs you'll be digging! NOT that you won't find anything else, but just be ready...

I went to get my permit for Lake Lewisville and they made sure I knew I could only detect on the beach. I was shocked that I couldn't detect around the picnic or treed areas. Has anyone had trouble at a corp lake for detecting in the grassy areas?

Checking out Jeep's list of lakes the mention of Lake Worth on the west
side of Ft Worth got me thinking. It's an old lake, a big lake and has
probably a hundred miles of coastline, just guessing. You will need to do
your homework but those ole silvers and jewelry would be there. It's
older than Benbrook and is fed by the East Fork of the Trinity. Grew up
nearby but I have been gone from that area a long time and don't know
what regs would apply.

Update
Somebody found some valuable items in Lake Worth, the say Cullen Davis got religious after winning his 1970s or 80s murder trial in Fort Worth and by his preachers instructions went to Lake Worth and threw about three hundred thousand dollars of art work and maybe silver or jewels items not really sure into the lake not sure what was found and how much us still there. There was a story in the Fort Worth Star Telegram about the guy finding some items in the lake shoreline area

I detected Collin Park almost ten years ago. Found some silver jewelry and alot of pull tabs. You will dig more pulltabs than there are stars in the sky.lol
