After several hours swinging the AT the other day, I decided I wanted to try another setup! I've had problems with my right forearm for a number of years and I see no sign of it getting much better.. Anyway a few parts I had laying around and viola! Straight shaft..

We'll find out the answer together.. I'm told it helps a lot for some people. In theory, and from what I'm seeing just holding it, my wrist is straighter and the balance is different. Since a half a day swinging the detector leaves me hurting, I wanted to try something different. The benchmark is 1/2 day, now I just need to get another day to kill detecting to see how it does. Since the weather broke I've been getting lots of calls so its off to work!

It seems my wrist is straighter and the balance is different. It may or may not work for me, I'm too busy to test it right now since the weather broke. I'll let y'all know when I finally do get the chance!

You should convert to the smaller coil too. The results have been a lot better for me.

I have the smaller coil and use it more than the stock. However, the beach I've been hunting is huge and not terribly trashy. I opted for coverage!

I had an hour to kill today so I took the AT to a sand volleyball court. I swung fast but covered two courts and had no arm pain at all! I also mounted the propointer just under the arm cuff to see how that felt. Overall I think the detector is probably 1/4 pound heavier but it swings better!

I'll call it a success at this point! Now I'm just waiting for the water to warm up..

I'd like to have that so I can see the screen better. Where did the pars come from?

I had a straight shaft from an old XL500(?) that I cut down and then used some 1/2" aluminum tubing to connect the AT middle shaft and arm cuff. I then bent a price of 1/2" conduit for the box mount. I'll probably change that later but it works pretty well! The old straight shaft had the handle welded in place or I'd have just used handle bar ends.
