I am in the Arlington / Mansfield area and would love to meet up with any and all for weekend hunts. I am a newbie and waiting for the delivery of my first MD since I was a kid in the 60's.
Plan on hitting the historical society this weekend to get pointed in the right direction.

OK Guys,
Enough, Lets get together. I have been doing a lot of research into the Cold Springs area and would enjoy the company of others to search out this area. I believe that I have a 50/50 chance of hitting the target. It has been the discussion of many historians over the years but I want to check my needle in the haystack. Anyone game?

I may be interested depending on where and when. I'm not familiar with Cold Springs but will research. I have a two box and if that's over the top, my T2 has a very capable cache mode. If water is involved I have an AT Pro and a kayak...

All I can find online refers to San Jacinto county? If so, I won't have time for that adventure-sorry!

Cold Springs is located in Ft. Worth. The actual location has been lost through the later years, post 1949 and many have been trying to find it. I think I might have a good idea and am going to start ground searches later today. (It's 3AM Now) If I can just find evidence of civil war activity I should be on spot. Many of the local old timers remember the springs but not it's exact location.
The search begins!

Appears that the site may have been heavily altered by dumps, levees and gravel pits... Unless you have a line on a clean location? Keep us posted!

Yes it has. The levee system also changed the flow of the Trinity. It sounds like you did a quick search but if you dig deeper and look at all the subtle clues and using landmarks that are still there and not moved in over 100 years you can begin to picture what it would have been like 150 years ago. Cold Springs road itself has been re-routed from the early days. The spring itself is probably dried up or under ground flowing into the river.
It will be a challenge to locate and recover evidence of the lost springs but that is one of the main reasons I got into this hobby is to learn more about our history and have stories to pass on to my grand kids and God willing greatgrand kids.
