Black sand on the beaches in Texas?

I know that Galveston has some black sand but isn't the area close to Brownsville considered heavy black sand? The reason that I ask is that I am contemplating buying a detector that was really made for the white sand beaches of Florida where there is no mineralization. Black sand will really affect this detector so just trying to figure out what to do? What is your experience with mineralization (black sand) on the Texas beaches? Thanks in advance.

Hi Joe,

The Florida beaches are milder than the Texas coast. While our beaches look mild, there is black sand below the pumped-in beach sand. Single Frequency VLF detectors will chatter if snesitivity and ground balance aren't managed well.
