Just a small find but priced right at 49 cents, a sterling silver candle snuffer. It was in a bin of kitchen knick knacks and straight up looks brass due to countless layers of smoke/was/etc, only marked in one small spot inside the bell so I'm not surprised it had gone overlooked. I only started looking for a hallmark because of one tiny smear of silver showing through where the handle bends, it's always the other way around with plated stuff so it seemed odd.

Silver... sometimes looks like cheap gold plate...
will tarnish a gold / brass'ish patina.

See it all the time.
Throws the new b's off every time...
hence the commonality of finding it.

JimDon I'm pretty sure your post about that candlestick helped push me to look closer at this piece so thanks! It is marked STERLING TAXCO in a circle, with what looks like CS inside the circle, also marked 925 below that. Haven't really been able to get very far re: age etc, if I can get a good pic I will post it here. It cleaned up really nicely too!
