Stopped by a local store in town. This was hanging on the wall for $25. I was not sure at first didn't have time to look it up so I gambled and spent $25. Signed Bentall 1987 SS. Used my loop for comparison size

The weight is immaterial, the tie is worth at least 4 bills.

I can't believe it was there. It's like 5 ounces. But that's with the strap also it doesn't come off. Trying to decide if I should have it cleaned leave it as is. I'm thinking about just leaving it the way it is. Let the next person deal with cleaning it.

That's a great bolo! I bought one recently for $20 and flipped on eBay for $375. I wouldn't clean it and advertise it as "old pawn". Nice find!

Except it isn't old pawn. It even has a date on it. Why try deception when it is already a known designer?

Right now it's hanging on my wall just like it was at the thrift store. I can't get anywhere until Friday when my wife has off and I don't have to take 4 kids with me anywhere. Not that I mind taking them it's just that when they're all hungry, and then they home want drinks, then me going to get my jewelry repair it ends up costing and additional 40 bucks. Lol

I'm not trying to be deceptive, it seems that a lot of Native American jewelry is titled "old pawn" on eBay. I don't know how you would confirm it was actually old pawn without the actual pawn slip. Seems the title applies to unpolished Native American jewelry on eBay. Just trying to suggest keywords to use...

Using ebay as a guideline is like saying "I know it's true, I saw it on the internet!".

The lower part of the mark on the back said SS. That stands for sterling silver.

The only reason I picked it up as being silver was because of that SS Mark. I believe someone else on here had a post and was Marked SS as well I don't remember what the item was but I think I owe it to T net for this find!

And once again I learn something on Tnet!
1.) BK, that's an awesome find!
2.) I would have figured SS to be Stainless Steel....

Thanks for the lessons

I don't see that many bolo's so much anymore as I did maybe 15, 20 years ago. If I had it I wouldn't be able to resist not cleaning it. I've no clue really what old pawn means anymore. Most sterling and real turquoise south west jewelry is all getting to be kind of old these days and they're all referred as old pawn in Arizona and New Mexico anymore.

Hmmm, me too. I've never heard of silver being marked 'SS'. Did you do a metals test on it?

I have a few pieces marked SS. Test as Sterling. First noticed it last year. Can't imagine how many pieces I may have missed in the past!

Ike that sick feeling when starting out, before Smart phones and going online to see what 585 meant? Only to realize you gave up a gold necklace because it wasn't marked 14 K. Never make that mistake again!!
