Question about acid testing a find

    Hello,

I bought this a thrift store for 3 dollars. I ran a series of acid tests on it: gold, and silver failed, but the platinum test was interesting. It held up for about a minute, and slowly started to dissolve after that.

Could this be a low purity platinum? I'm new to testing metals, and I'm having a hard time flinding information on the results, so I hope someone could share their knowledge.

Also, the divot on the back leads me to believe it was attached to something before I bought it.

    Thanks in advance,
    Bug

No chance. Try testing known gold, silver, and platinum items and pay attention to the results. Btw the item is a pewter pocket angel.

Precious metals like platinum are only used on very refined jewelry pieces. They generally are not used in items like this. Look for quality craftsmanship.
