So I picked up a cool vase two weeks ago. It had a museum accession number on it. I researched it and found the museum. The Davis Museum at Wellsley. Well it’s a legit 17th century Chinese dragon vase. I originally ran into issues with the auction house because of the museum number, but it turns out it was deaccessioned in the 1980s. Going to auction in September. Very happy. Here’s the sisters, still in the museum, note the nearly sequential accession numbers: ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1527364642.196742.jpg

So a very interesting story here - the vase has been returned to the museum. I apparently misinterpreted their original statement. As it turns out, it was lent to the museum president in the 1980s, but it is still part of their collection. Overnighted it yesterday and its back where it belongs. I would like to have sold it of course, but I’m happy with the way it all turned out. You absolutely never know what you will find out there! Happy hunting!
