Was leaving a local thrift store when I spotted an interesting looking flatware set that looked fairly complete for $100. It was on the shelf behind where they have all the jewelry so I asked to see one of the forks so I could see the manufacturer and take a picture to research the pattern name, thinking I’d consider getting it in a few weeks when it was discounted 25% or 50% when the color of the price tag was the color of the week.
I was shocked when I turned the piece over and saw it was International Sterling. I asked as calmly as I could to buy the set which I have since identified as the Wedgwood pattern. It’s pretty much a complete set of 12 place settings (one salad fork is missing) plus an extra 12 teaspoons and some serving forks, meat forks, ladle etc. It also included some other sterling and sterling-filled handle pieces from other manufacturers/patterns. Total weight of the solid sterling pieces was 105.4 troy ounces and 35.75 ounces of sterling handled items (maybe another 8 troy ounces or so assuming 25% of the weight is silver for these items).
Easily my best thrift shop find. Now I just need to figure out if I can do best selling the Wedgwood pieces as one set or sell individual place settings and the other pieces on their own.
