I bought a large lot of watchmakers tools and parts on eBay this week. I wasn’t expecting any gold in this aside from maybe a gold-filled watchband or two but was happily surprised it included enough gold to more than cover the cost of the lot and the $40 shipping charge.
First up were a couple of small Mason symbols that were screwed into a watchband.
I couldn’t find any markings but they tested out as 10K. Total weight for both was 0.5g but that included some non-gold parts soldered to the back where the screws attached.
Next up was a large watch bezel that tested as 14K and weighed 1.7g.
Checked it with a file and it definitely is not gold-filled.
The final surprise were these dozen envelopes.
Inside each one was this:
I had no idea what they were for until I found a card in a box that explained these were used to attached a engagement ring and wedding ring together. I initially saw GF on the envelopes and assumed they were gold-filled but a closer look indicated they were actually all solid 14K gold and marked as such. Total weight for these were 3.5g.
