Just grabbed this up at the local thrift store! My great grandfather was WW1 US Cavalry and I thought it might be the kind he used. But I think it might be older... 20191019_185456.jpg 20191019_185531.jpg 20191019_185536.jpg Ulysses%20Grant%20Fought.jpg

013.JPG My dad was US Calvary WW2.(white sands testing grounds NM ). Sometime After the war he bought one as a reminder, i guess.Anyhow this one was made 1909 And I think this saddle design carried on for quite some time.Give it some 'Saddle soap' ! The leather needs it bad.

Cool, that one is in good shape. I need to fully ID this one. The front and back straps were purposefully cut on it. I'm wondering if after the US didnt want the they cut those?
Luckily I have 3 horses and saddle cleaning supplies haha
Thanks

Looks like the US Army used them from 1859 until 1940s

I have a black McClellan saddle I got at an estate auction. I paid ten bucks or something for it. If I'm not mistaken, I read somewhere that the black leather ones were Civil War era and the brown were post war. Not sure entirely on this as I'm not a saddle expert, but would like to find more written on these just so I could know for certain.

Hey Nick, very cool saddle!

I'm not a saddle expert either but what peaked my interest is the "11-inch seat" brass emblem on your saddle.

I found a brass emblem last month at a permission property EXACTLY matching the brass emblem on your saddle. After showing what I found to the property owner, she said it most likely belonged to a kid's Pony saddle due to the smaller "seat" size. . . just wanted to pass that information along.
