I was telling my wife that it had been a while since I had a big score at a thrift store...meaning an item worth over $500. My local GWs are getting better at pulling good jewelry and watches, but I got lucky this week. In a $50 bag of jewelry, I spotted this vintage Heuer dive watch. It’s the 980.006 and in great condition. I tried to open it with my watch tool and added a scratch! This is before I realized it was a actual dive watch and is still sealed pretty tightly. Luckily the scratch is minor and although the bracelet is missing the clasp, it’s a great watch. I need to sell it and could get an easy $600+ but it needs a battery and getting it serviced would bring the value to over $1000.00. But I kinda like it too much to sell it! That is an awesome find for a bag. Predates 1985 when Tag acquired them. You should find a jewelry store that can replace the battery and water pressure tested for under 100

Local high end jeweler can change battery and send out for pressure test for $50! Although they only offered me $200 for a 1960s Omega Pie Pan (Sold in on eBay for over $900), I think I can trust them with the work.

I'd be keeping that one if I found it. Cool watch for sure.

Nice man. Watches are one item I just don't feel confident buying. I used to carry a list of valuable watches with me when on the hunt but never found one and can't remember the names now anyway. Watches, art, marbles... Watches should be the easiest to pick up on but I can't! Congrats!

Jeweler checked it out.. a bit of rust and service is $200. But it would be sent to TagHeuer who will replace more pieces than I would like. I have to figure out next steps. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1580696778.157569.jpg

That movement looks toast. Maybe with a bit of research, you'll be able to find the same movement used in some other less desirable band name watch.

Bought one just like that years ago for $100 and wear it quite often....had a Korean watch repair man in Houston that is only man I trusted to work on it. Had to replace stem that broke off one time
It actually resembles an old Rolex as well
