This piece caught my eye as it has a familiar style in design of other pieces I've come by as .800/1000 alloy silver from Germany. I looked it over and over for the proof it was a pure marked piece of silver and wasn't seeing it. Finally I went to the furniture part of the store and sat down on a nice puffy couch under some good lighting and began to look much more carefully. I then spotted the tiny mark hidden by the dark oxidation. It is a weighted piece, but there's still a good amount of silver involved in this find. The first picture I shot just after I found the proof mark, as I was feeling that satisfaction of not coming up empty handed on this visit to the thrift store treasure hunt.

Yeah it's not commonly found, but over the years I have obtained a few pieces of this German alloy silver. This is the first one I've got that was reinforced. I don't know what kind of cement they used, but it was black as coal and smelled like creosote. It busted out real easy. So for a bit over five bucks I got sixty + bucks in silver for the stash.

I rather like that design. It's shame that these kinds of things aren't valued much beyond their silver content, if at all. Weighted pieces were filled with a variety of materials but yours was almost certainly filled with pitch.

Yeah it is a shame on some if these older silver pieces, I don't have it anymore as I took it to the PM buyer along with another insignificant piece of sterling and got around 85% of melt. Now hopefully this cash in hand will find its way to something extraordinary.
