Docc and Cptbild's '08 Trip
Say Doc !
When you decide on what to buy, the rifles for the trip,
Give some thought to rifles shooting military ammo.
Like:
.223 .308 .45(pistol) or 30/06
You can buy surplus ammo for them pretty darn cheap!
I have a variety of surplus '06 ammo.
ie: AP , Tracer, incend. , FMJ, etc....
I buy it thru the (from dealers that advertise there)
"Shotgun News Magazine"
It, comes out about twice a month
I usually buy the ('06) ammo. in lots of 500 !
Except for the .45 !
That I get in lots of a 250 !
Plus!
I reload for '06, 6.5x257 Ackley Imp. .44, .45 and . 44 mag (pistol & rifle), as well as .243
Except for the 12 guage Magnum
That, ammo I buy from Academy Sporting Goods ...
They sell it almost as cheap as I can reload it !
BUT!
Hay!, I can relaod the '06 to right at 4100 fps !
That IS! FAST!

Re: Docc and Cptbild's '08 Trip
Docc:
1...I don't know if you get Shotgun News there in Florida or not ?
So, I'll send you a copy from here
It, "SGN" also lists the prices of some "Thompson Submachine" guns
As well as prices for the surplus ammo.
I buy mine from a Co./guy, in St. Louis...
2...I'll be heading into town in a few minutes,
But!
When I get back, I'll contact The USGS about those Photoquad Maps we talked about!
I'll buy an extra copy of "The Silver Tunnel" area and have them send it to you ...
That way you can see where we'll be camping and about where "The Tunnel" is going to be from camp!
I'll send more on that, the location, later
How was your trip back to Florida...?
I couldn't believe it, when you said that the temp. there was 25*
It was in the 60's and still is (@ 10 am) here! 8)

Re: Docc and Cptbild's '08 Trip
DOCC:
I am thinking about buying another rifle myself
Other! than a .30 cal !
I'm thinking about either a 243 since I have the reloading dies
OR!
A, 244 Rem. Ackley Imp.
I shot some of that surplus '06 ammo that I bought from the Company in St Louis
MAN!
Did it kick ! :P
After just 12 rds, my eyes were watering!
I quit shooting it and called them up!
The guy said,
Ohh! We got in a batch of '06 that was loaded up for the HEAVY Machine GUNS!
It takes a load of power to cycle/move those heavy breech bolts back
Heck!
I'd estimate that the rounds are on a level with a 300 magnum!
I've got about 488 rds left !

Re: Docc and Cptbild's '08 Trip
SAY! Doc:
When you come back to Texas in Jan. and when you are ready to leave Ft Hood, to start the trip
Where do you want to meet!
Somewhere along I-10, but west, out of San Antonio ?
OR ?
There are several places we could meet
We'll need to head west on I-10 anyway, and out to Balmorhea, Tx.
Then, drop down, south, to get to the "Gun Cache Site" !

Re: Docc and Cptbild's '08 Trip
Doc:
The nearest town is 14 miles away!
Besides, we have two homes... So!
You can stay at the "River House" !
It's Fully furnished
It's got, three bedrooms, two baths, living room, enclosed porch (16'x24'), open, covered porch (10'x50'), Kitchen,
Den/tv room, computer room, etc...etc...
You'll just have to share it with the "Residental Gang" (our "cats" and etc) ?
It's dry at this time .....
But!
You'll have 5 acs of privacy !
(Front yard is 2 acs, the backyard is 3 acs.)
Except that the "Burros" can get to the back yard fence from "the other pasture" ....
They're part of the "Resid. Gang" !
But!
They're no problem!

Re: Docc and Cptbild's '08 Trip
Say! Doc:
Are you planning to have/build a small trailer to haul camping/TH'ing/prospect'n gear ?
We can build one down here, if you are ?
Mine's ( 4'x7') built with an alum., frame & a small boat (13" tires) axle .
I've got all of the tools & such that we'll need!
Heck!
Maybe, between the two of us, we can even finish putting the "283" engine into my S-10 ?
OR!
Since you're a " Ford " Guy!
We can pull the Mercury's "351" & transmission and use it in place of the "283" ?
I just overhauled that engine and has less than 5000 miles on it !
We no longer have a use for the 'Wagon !
It's been sitting for awhile!

Re: Docc and Cptbild's '08 Trip
So, are expecting possible trouble? If so, all that I have used for the last 18 years for everything is my ruger 10-22. sounds kind of harmless, but it's quiet, and there is nothing that I can't hit right where I want to. I have extensive training.

Doc:
I talked to MisterBeee last night, he sounds like our type of ourdoorsman!
Says, he'll be ready to go along with us around the end of Feb..
That should fit into our schedule perfectly...
I'll see about contacting Dave Anderson, my Native American Friend, who's living on the
Reservation just south of Phoenix...
He's a good person to have along....
He's a Special Forces Instructor for/at Ft Banning
No thing gets past him .... !

Re: Docc and Cptbild's '08 Trip
cptbil,
A Rattlesnake vaccine for your dog ? I have never heard of this but I am very interested. Is this a true vaccine? could you please expand on this just a little bit? do you know how it works? I have had some bad experiences with rattlesnakes and my dog being bitten has always been one of my biggest worries.
Thanks,Bill

Re: Docc and Cptbild's '08 Trip
I have been studying symbols for a while now, but now I'm really digging deep, and finding out some pretty interesting things. Knowledge is power. That race is very greedy and they set some very interesting traps. They would rather cave in the whole thing with us in it than never be able to have it for themselves again. On that marker, is there any symbols?
