First "Coppa" with a Patriotic "ring"...
...coppa button that is . Haven't had much of a chance to get out but Wednesday I had about a half hour to do a quick "blitz" of the local park. This is the same park that Iz and I dug our first silver ring at, so I figure I'll devote what little time I have these next few weeks to hitting the tot lot and adjacent field.
I originally planned on just sticking to the tot lot so I had the 4" coil set up to go - big mistake - seeing how it was a beautiful evening, there were still plenty of folks out with their kids playing. I figured since I was there, I might as well walk a small "grid" on the large field and see if I could pick up anything decent. Found a giant bolt with the washer "frozen" to it, a couple of old nails (?) and a little "whatsit". Also dug a '67 Lincoln, a cool little enameled ring (very patriotic I might add ) - not silver, but this one actually fits Izzy's finger and she's crazy about it ...
The button is what I'm curious about. Pulled it from 7 inches and it's a little tweaked on one end, but it's definitely copper (accidentally scratched the back trying to clear the dirt out of it). There are no markings on it as it appears that the back has long since rotted away. Research states there was an old homestead with a small planting field where the park is now located. One of the oldest homes in my town is only a block away from here as well. Any help with the button would be greatly appreciated since this is certainly not my usual "cup of tea". I doubt it could be i.d.'d as to who/where made, but an age would be great.
thanks for stoppin' by and "keep on swingin'"...
