YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS...........

Cru'Dad went back to the field looking for the top of the Saxon Brooch (thankfully still no visible crop).

He didn't find the rest of the brooch but he did get his first Celtic Gold & our second this year. 2 hours & no roman coins :icon_scratch:

CELTIC GOLD STATER;

Ruler - CUNOBELIN

Minted about 20AD

They are different variants (see picture of coins side by side). What a Year!!!

Way to go with the banner!!!! It does not matter if you were not "trying" to get a banner find, you did. It is just super great that you shared with all of us.

WOW~! Stunning! Congrats on the find and the banner (again).

Was this coin found anywhere near the other one?

I believe you speculated about the first coin being an offering of some sort. Same suspicions with this one?

These coins miles at least 40 miles apart. I did find a Celtic Silver & other Celtic bits in this field, so its hard to speculate at the moment. This was not only my thoughts on the previous coin but those of the UK Lead Celtic Coin expert, but its all guess work really. Unless it turns up in a ritual pond. After all these were not used as coins (as we know them to be used now), they were ritual, payment for political alliance between Leaders, or payment to foreign mercenaries.

Re: YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS...........

Finding a gold coin in an old field in England is like finding a needle in a haystack....it's painstaking work, but if you work at it long enough, you will find the gold, just like you will eventually find the needle. It's all a matter of getting the coil over the right ground at the right time. The only thing is....if you saw someone throw a needle in the haystack, you know it's there. In the fields where you hunt, there's gold(needles) here and there, but you really don't know where. It may be buried too deep in the ground out of detecting range, until the fields get plowed. It's tough, either way! Perseverance, Determination, Passion, Expertise, and a good amount of Luck are all the keys to holding one of those "Goldies" in your hand at the end of the day.

Congrats to Cru'Dad for a most excellent gold coin find!! :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:
