I visited my old hunting grounds/Civil War camp site, visited by both sides and I finally found my first South Carolina button!!! I also found a little gold and little fungus. What is known as a" Hen of the woods" Grifola Fondosa its biological name. Let me tell you its was wonderful to eat and this was only part of it. This hen weighed 12lbs!!!
So thats the end of my story enjoy

great finds!! I love finding buttons as much as coins. Congrats on the shroom also. Is that one of those that grow on the side of a tree? I think I remember seeing a food channel program that they were getting these huge mushrooms off of trees, way up there and needed a special pole with saw blade to cut them off.

Thanks for showing us.

Re: My first South Carolina Button (Civil War relics)and a little fungus among u

I see that kind of fungus in the woods all the time. I wondered if it was edible. I'm still gonna hold of.
I'm always afraid that what I'm looking at and the stuff you can eat are two different things. I had a
friend that used to come to our house all the time to hunt mushrooms and I was all freaked out that
he'd hit something wrong. That was 30+ years ago and he's still living, I guess he survived. I'll stick
with the ones that you buy at the store. Very nice buttons!!
