My First 18k Gold, Found In A School Yard

    Howdy Folks,

I decided to hunt at an elementary school this morning.
This school is about 50 or 60 years old.

They have a huge play area.

I hunted 3 or 4 hours and didn’t get a third of it done.

    Here’s the whole shootin match.

There was a lot of clad. So I counted it.

    Pennies…....114
    Nickels……...48
    Dines……..…30
    Quarters..…..15
    Kennedy Half..1
    Total……….208 coins

    Cash Value$10.79

    Here are tha chains.

    Here’s tha junk ringy thingies.

    Here’s about 7.3 ear rings.

    Anybody like zipper pulls?

    Bullets, buttons, bangles and bells.

Here’s a ROTC badge, token, Kennedy Half, a little
    iron and a few pendants.

This pendant turned out to be 18k gold with a pretty
    stone of some kind.

Does anyone know what kind of stone this is?

This is the first time I have found 18k gold.

Pretty nice day. It was cold starting out, and I shed
layers as the day progressed. I never got very cold,
    but I sure got tired.

    Thanks for lOOkin,

    Tabdog

Re: My First 18k Gold, Found In A School Yard

    Hay folks,

I was tired when I posted the hunt. I did not
    mention many details.

The whole area I hunted today was covered
with gravel. I didn't dig anything deep unless
I liked the sound of it. That's how I recovered
so many targets in such a short time.

That's often my strategy in high drop areas.
That way I am looking for recent gold or silver
    drops.

This place became a very rough neighborhood
about 20 years ago, or longer. The public uses
the play area when school is not going. I stayed
until some rough looking guys started roaming
the area. That was about 12:00.

That explains why the area has not been hunted
    for a long time.

I will probably go back next Sunday morning.

    Happy Huntin,

Great finds, you sure cleaned that place up!!! As for the stone, the first thing that poped in my head was purple tigereye or dark tigereye. But I am no expert. Congrats on your 18k!!!

Wow, that's a lot of finds from the schoolyard, tabdog!!

Great day for you. I'm sure you were tired, as you said you were.

This post reminded me of a fellow Tnet member, BoobyDoo. He used to find everything but the kitchen sink at his local schoolyards.

Congrats on the gold, and all your finds!!

really nice haul! That is a rightgeous piece of jewlery, the stone is a black star sapphire they are worth more if they have 6 rays and not 4, but the 4 ray is still rare and I've never seen one. I'm jealous!
