Great day- My first dated V nickel & Two rings

Today was a great day for me. I found a wedding band for a gentleman after work today. See my other post.

Today at lunch I hit the plantation woods and finally found my first dated V nickel! A 1905.

Also pictured are some other relics I've found at the plantation last week.
Does anyone know what these two "Spencer" clips would be from? :icon_scratch: Too small to be suspender clips.

After work I hit a park on the way home. I worked an area where I found two gold rings last year by the lake.
My very first hole was the metal arrowhead pendant.
God as my witness, my very next hit was a silver ring with clear & colored stones. Stamped .925.
I thought, "man, this is great."
About 20 minutes later, after digging a number of fishing sinkers, I got a good signal close to the paved walkway. I dug a plug and....Holy Smokes :o, a big fat silver men's ring. I left it in the dirt plug and brought it home as-is for you all to see before I cleaned it up. It is a heavy ring stamped "Ster" (sterling) inside, with a beautiful North Carolina symbol on the front.
Both rings are beautiful finds indeed, and I wasn't even close to finishing the area yet before I got called away. Hopefully there will be more to be found.
Thanks for looking,
MM
(I think my Dad was looking down on me today. :angel5: )

Thanks Neil.
I remember saying that too. ;D It is such a treat to be out in the middle of the woods and to find a small item like a coin instead of a shotgun shell head. Like a needle in a haystack. I was hoping for an 1800's nickel, but this one will do just fine too.
I tumbled it and then used hot peroxide to get it clean. It came out pretty good.
Now if I can just find some silver out there.
-Doug-

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE GREAT REPLIES. THEY MEAN ALOT.

Re: Great day- My first dated V nickel & Two rings

Wow! MM,,, some great digs there... Congrats!
That "V" nickel is one of the best I have seen. How did you clean it? Most of the ones I find are all reddish in color and the ones I find that still have the dirt on them, when they come out of the ground, still end up all red after rinsing them off with water...

Just a guess on the buckles but they look to possibly be suspender buckles..
Also, that seal ring is awesome...
Continued Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Another day another ...nickle? Congrats on your first dated V. Have you found a shield nickle yet? I found my first a couple years ago. The weather is starting to be a factor. I hope it holds out.

The rings are great! Opals tend to chip, but that one (which has a lot of fire in it, too) looks fine!

The V-nickel is mine. I had one with those exact #s on it (1905) that I spent when I was a callow teenager.

Re: Great day- My first dated V nickel & Two rings

MM,

You really made some Beautiful finds there. A great mix of old and new--and the new stuff is items Anyone would want in their collection.

Well done!

The Spencer clips I'm pretty sure are in fact suspender clips. The scalloped edge on them to grip the fabric is a dead giveaway. I have found several smaller ones from the teens or twenties, but none that are an exact match to those. But I'm pretty sure that's what they are.

Regards,

Buckleboy
