Back to CW Site where I found the TENNESSEE Vet's Pin-More Relics!!!

Yesterday, Dman and I returned to the US CW site where I found the TENN Pin 2 weeks ago. We found the site in April 2008 and this was our 7th trip with hunts averaging about 4 hours each. The pic shows recoveries from that US CW site to date. Yesterday, I found the finial from a scabbard tip, another knapsack hook without button, back from an Eagle Button, 3 bullets, and 2 pieces of canister lead. I did finally find 2 pieces of melted lead from a fire indicating that the soldiers built a fire there. We still believe that this was not a camp of long term use. Dman found bullets, knapsack hook with button attached, canister lead, and one iron canister ball-the first from that site. He will post shortly.
The Union Soldiers who were there must have been very hard on knapsacks since I have recovered 3 hooks from that site without the button on the end. Dman found the first complete hook yesterday. The best site finds to date are the TENN Pin, Hodgkiss fuse, and Dman's coat size Eagle Infantry Button. Thanks for looking and HH from cold and rainy Tennessee!!!

My CW Relic count for 2008 is 154- I do not count melted lead, button backs, non-CW period coins, or flat buttons unless found in CSA sites. It's still out there!!!

Nice work!

Glad to see the Tennessee pin as the centerpiece of the display.

Are all those thin brass wires pieces of J-hooks?

Keep up the good work, buddy.

As you know MM, it becomes less to find each year. Two CW Camps that I hunted previously are now covered by subdivisions. Get it while you can!!!

DG, the fuse is a puzzle that we have yet to figure out. The canister shot that we find at that site was fired from a location about 1/2 mile away from there but the fuse plug showed no sign of ever being used. We have never found any iron frags or blown Hodgkiss sabots at that exact place. We do know the Union Artillery test fired their cannons toward that site and regularly. Obviously, they cleared the infantry out first and that's why we don't think it was a permanent camp. Maybe we can solve this mystery as we continue to recover relics there. Thanks for your interest and if you have any ideas, please share them.HH.
