Sunday morning was cool and windy, but that did not stop our hunt. VOL1266-X and I made our ninth trip to a favored location, a temporary Union camp. There was a lot of moisture in the ground due to recent rain and snow, making targeting easier. My first target was a small pistol bullet, at about 6 inches deep. I found a dropped .54 caliber bullet and a fired .58 caliber bullet, both were about 4 inches deep. I dug up a piece of lead canister shot. I then got a good strong signal and dug out a lead sabot from a three inch Hodgekiss shell. I got a fluty/funny signal and dug the Barlow knife from about 10 inches. I later showed the knife to a local knife expert and he said it was a Civil War period knife, not bad for a 3 hour walk.
Thanks for looking,
Dman

When you showed me the barlow, I knew it was old but I never dreamed it was as old as you. Nice finds!! Where there are Hodgkiss sabots, there are frags and maybe unexploded CW shells.HH.
