Not much to post about, but do need an answer to a question from some one who knows about these types of things. Went back to a park today. Well, the park, small town. I must have hit the best section last time, because there wasn't much there today. I did dig a big ring which looks gold plated. I noticed the silver color to the ring before I noticed the stamp on the inside which says 18 KT HGE. I think the last letter is an "E", but I'm not certain. The ring has a design, of stones, on it that looks kind of like a key. 9 stones set up like a tic tac toe board, with three more stones to the right, like the middle line of another tic tac toe board. three of the stones are missing, including what is supposed to be the big one in the middle of the 9. Any chance of this ring having any value?

Hey 1996, that was fast.... you sure didn't wait long to find a ring. They will come more often now is my guess. I agree that HGE is heavy gold electroplate. Nice find, keep on diggin!!!

Yes, the guys are right. They stopped using the HGE engraving in about 1970 as it was misleading those who thought it was more than just a plating.

Danglangley,

I've found a few rings before, but this is the closest I've come to a "real" one though. I found three or four in one day, about a month or so ago. One was a skull and cross bones, like a biker would wear; it's not in good shape though.

Still looking for that gold.

crackbadger, I see you use an ace 250. do you use any discrimination with it in jewelry mode if you're digging lots of trash.

Hey Brother,

I Usually run in the custom mode simply taking out the signals I dont want. A couple thing you need to know are that gold reads as a pulltab and 5cent piece on the ACE so you need to dig them and not pass, which most people do is pass LOL and then ask why they havent found any gold. Your ring is definately plated, but atleast you got a gold plated ring, some peeps are still waiting to find that. I recommend getting the trash you do find that you dont want to dig anymore and scan one good time and see what its reading. I usually run in the custom mode taking out foil, iron and that about it, depending on what area im in. If you only want to find gold take out all signals except for the 5cent and pulltab, but keep in mind if objects are at poor angles or they happen to be by a penny the signal maybe mixed and you may pass thinking its junk. So be careful and have fun! any more questions PM in me!!

Yep,, got me a few of those HGE's.

HGE - is heavy gold electroplate - if you get an antique one - depending on the company - they can still be collectible
and some times they did/do put real stones in them - so have a jeweler take a look possibly
