My first 1700's silver! (HALF REALE)

I was out today with an md buddy even though we had a fresh coating of snow today and found a 1781 silver coin! I think it's some kind of Spanish reale? It does have a hole drilled in it for some reason. Any ideas as to what it is and why someone would drill such a small hole through it? Thanks for looking and HH!

Yes--it is a Spanish Half Real and it is a GREAT find!

That's a beautiful find! Don't sweat the hole; you'll find that in older coins. I found a large cent a few weeks ago with a hole punched in it. Kind of adds to the charm, even if taking away some value.

i think it had a iron nail in the hole, not sure why

Fantastic find Cam. A coin like that would make my year.
I think the coins that are drilled actually have more character. Must have meant a lot to someone back then.
