A little bit of encouragement by a fellow TNeter Jorge Del Norte got me out looking for an old park in the local town. I didn't find the park but I did find another place to search around. All and all a boring day, about 7 Lincoln Memorial pennies, two clad dimes, one of those bent badly. But below is photos of a medal that I found between two big sweet gum trees in an area I searched.

A little Internet research tells me that Sprague Warner & Company was a very large food supplier. I found a 1912 publication as a PDF file with a good deal of information about the company and it's founders.

The medal apparently was issued for their 75th anniversary in 1937. It looks to be made of brass or bronze. It was rather cruddy as found. I tried a hot peroxide dip that I have read about here and it cleaned it up quite nicely. Then rubbed her down with some Renaissance Wax and buffed with a paper towel.

It is slightly larger than a fifty cent piece. Rang up like a penny on my machine, thought I had found another Lincoln Memorial till I saw the size of it.

Now that is the kind of find that makes this hobby really fun. Clean it up, it's old, search for history, enter it at the club meeting monthy finds and get a silver dollar for first place ;D

Very nice, keep at it!
