Had this hammered coin yesterday. At first thought it was an standard penny of probably Edward 1 (1279-1307), closer inspection made the coin look a bit more interesting. The mint mark looks a bit strange , having said that I'm not an expert on the rarer mints. The kings portrait also seems to have no eyes (maybe king of the zombies), could just be wear though. Think there's a chance this coin is a continental imitation. These imitation coins turn up from time to time, Crusader had one recently. There was a continental king called John the Blind, who although being blind still lead his army in to battle. I found one of his coins years ago (sold it) but it had I eyes I think.

I guess you right, would be nice to get a full ID.

The Obv legend is correct (interesting), but the reverse is not English. Probably French??

Great, old find. I get, here in S. Korea, about 1 or 2 silver coins a year, if lucky. Find many, many older coins, but silver was worth a lot to the Koreans, and they held on to it better then they did to their holed coins or their copper/brass coins.
Great find!! Keep it up, and Keep posting.....keep me jealous!! :D

Arhhhh... I thought it strange the Obv legend was correct. I've never had a Bury St Edmunds & no Edward II's (although I have suspected some of My Ed I's might be wrongly labelled). Very nice find, I hope I get a few different mints this year
