What a great thing to unearth! I had seen Trond's avatar pic and assume he's in the [Pop. 2] Mace Finder's Club.

I think the weapon most people call a Mace--a spiked ball on a chain attached to a handle--is called a Mace-and-Chain.
And a metal "dowel" striking part on a chain attached to a handle is called a Flail. Looks like nunchaku ("nunchucks"), only the handle is usually longer than the swung / striking part.

This (stating the obvious) is an unbelievably-rare find that makes me wonder if the whole weapon was dropped and the wooden handle 'went away', or if the head flew off as hammerheads often do--leaving the wielder "hitting someone with a stick" and then dying with a chagrined look on his face from the counterblow.
