Been waiting months to get out to a farm that i have received permission to hunt. Finally got out there this morning. about 6 hours scouting the numerous fields. Found lots of iron, aluminum, copper, farm equipment bits and pieces. Found a handle looking thing as the farmer came by. Asked him if he was missing it. He said it was a maple tap that he had never used before. Most have been a previous owner.

I also found my first harmonica reed, a "Nickle Silver" spoon, another horse tack buckle, a pewter flat button (no shank), and my first ever eagle button. Anyone know about it? It hasgold gilting and 17 stars around the outside and the back says "Best Plated - London".

Nice button. I find lots of those maple syrup taps up in northern WI in the summer!

Thanks MB and collector01 for the button info. Pretty neat stuff. Now to see if I can figure why it was in a farms field.

Thanks, and I scoured that area good for any other goodies, but no such luck. Still got lots of land to cover though. Fingers crossed.

You might want to change the title of your post from "eagle button" to "early militia button". That way more people will get to enjoy it.

Good point. Thanks.
