My wife and I just returned from a four day trip to my home turf in Northern Indiana. My brother offered to fly me up there to show him how to post items on Craigslist and E-bay. Who was I to say "no"? ;D Of course I took my detector with me.  On Friday, I hit a corn field that I've been trying to get at for years. According to my old maps, I knew there used to be an old one room school house out there back at the turn of the century.
Every time I had been back there before the corn was over 6 foot tall. :'( So as you can see in the videos, the corn was fast asleep this time.
I only had a few hours to locate the school and detect, because my wife was anxious to hit the casinos. It was a bit cold & windy, but I didn't care, I wanted something, ANYTHING, out of that field as proof. I concentrated on a section that was raised up close to the road. After numerous pieces of crappe' and shotgun shell heads, I finally found a piece of a pocket watch. After that a few square nails, a small piece of brick, a lantern thumb wheel, old key, a brass goat bell, and finally a coin! It's only a 1907 IH cent, but to me it was the joy of knowing that indeed I was in the right spot and was able to locate a few pieces from days gone by. By Sunday it was cold & snowing, so I couldn't get back out there again. At least I know where to start again when I get back there next time.

Oh yeah, my wife did WAY better than me this trip. I only got an IH penny, but she hit TWO royal flushes on video poker ($1284 and $1250). Did I mention how much I love my wife? ;D
Have a great week,
MM
P.S. Sorry I haven't been on TN too much lately, but I had to get a garden going.

Way to go MM!

I think digging a 1907 IH is more fun than a casino anyway.

Hmmm, Well maybe if I won $3,000 it would be different :)

MM, apparently you and your wife have good luck in Indiana too. I smell a new MD in your future (or a new tiller). Cool finds!!!

Thanks Thrilla.
I agree, I like to detect more than gamble. Except when it's snowing that is. ;D

I was thinking more like the 67 Nova SS fixer-upper I spotted on a small car lot in town.
Thanks VOL.

This thread needs more of what one Tnet member called a "SCROTAL Bell" (I am thinking that I do NOT want to know what that type of bell was for!) :tard:

So, great video MM. It is awesome to find signs of a site. In some of our hunts, we come back with nothing more than bricks and a few flat buttons. But we're always happy to know that we found the right spot.

And then there are times when we bring back a bit more.

Keep up the good work, and congratulations on finding the site. That's the tough part. The easy part is hunting it. :)

Your next assignment is to find a homestead or school in the Middle of a bean field or corn field that is at least 80 acres in size. ;D

BB,
I was thinking of The Iron Brigade when I was out there, and all of the fields you guys & gals hunt. It was a lot of fun looking for some signs of the old school. At least I didn't go home empty handed.
As far as finding a non-existing dwelling in an 80 acre field, NO PROBLEM. I now have my lucky scrotal GOATal bell. :o ;D
Have a great week Big Guy.

P.S. Merf came to mind when I dug that IH up out in that corn field. Merf is the IH king. :icon_king:

Thanks CW.
It was fun hitting a field for once instead of an old home yard.

Doug,
It's always more satisfying to prove something that just to make a find.

Tell Diane that any day the wife doesn't spend more than she makes is a good day! ;D :D :D :D

Nice find! i was at a site just like this tonight, there was brick pieces and even a piece of pottery here and there, but as soon as we got the detectors out the rain started coming down. My hunting partner got us permission to hunt the land so bright and early tomorrow we are going to hit the site pretty hard. I will post if we make any finds!

Ron,
I tried to get over to Ohio, but my wife insisted on going to the casino. I'm glad she did. ;D

Good luck CD.
Detecting in these fields is a lot of fun. Due to so few targets I can actually use all metal mode on my detector out there.
Looking forward to seeing what you find.
