Unexpected 4 hour hunt gave up Injuns' and Barbers

Well I went to help my dad tear out some old carpet...and put in some new carpet yesterday.

I got there at 6 in the morning and by noon we were done.

I didn't need to be at work until 5 that evening...so guess what? ;D ...yep...I went hunting. I snuck in a 4 hour hunt at a park I haven't been back to since my mom passed away last year. :angel7:

It is a spot I frequented quite a few times last year...but only for an hour here...or two hours there. It is near the hospital...and during visits...I wandered there while my mom was resting. I would then come back to the hospital with a temporarily clean head. :angel11:

Anyway...the ground was nice and moist...in fact muddy in some spots. For me...the signals seem so come in better when ground conditions are like this.

It wasn't long before I got a nice injun hit...and it was deep. Problem is that there are tons of little wire pieces at this park for some reason. You know the ones I'm talking about :)...the ones that absolutely sound like an Injun'....then turn out to be a 2" piece of wire. ???

I dug down over 9" and was pleasantly surprised with my first Injun' pocket spill of '09... two in one hole.

I plugged along for another hour or so before getting another decent signal to check out....and it was a super deepie. It sounded like a clad dime from one direction...but had the mixed in warble tone to it from the other direction. It repeated from 3 of 4 angles...and the depth meter was buried....a no brainer dig.

After getting down over 8"...the probe finally sounded off...and I knew it was silver. After another 2" of dirt came out...finally the glint of silver showed up....a 1907 Barber dime from 10" down. My second 1907 this year...and a little nicer than the first one. :icon_sunny:

I plugged along for another 1 1/2 hours finding 2 more deep injuns from the 9" range....the choir boy pin...and the little broach pin.

At this point I was ready to leave a very happy man...but I still had 45 minutes before I needed to be at work. ;D

Anyway...I wandered towards a big tree that had produced a couple of injuns' last year...hoping to pop out just one more keeper.

After 15 minutes or so I got a nice faint hit...but it wouldn't repeat. ??? I kept circling the hole like a goof...trying to MAKE it repeat but it wouldn't ;D ::)
I figured it would be my last dig of the day...junk or good....my last dig either way. I got down about 9"" and the probe sang pretty good. I thought it was going to be a wheatie...but was pleasantly surprised by seeing a little silver rim of the 1911 Barber dime peaking through. :o It was nearly straight on edge. A perfect way to end the day of a hunt that I didn't expect to have in the first place.

After rinsing off the Barbers...the 1911D turned out to be a blazer with full Liberty

The injuns' will be soaking for a day or so in olive oil :D

I'm glad I packed the SE for the "just in case" hunt. Had we decided to try and save the carpet...no way I would have had time to hunt. After about 3 hours though...my Dad had enough and just decided to start ripping it out ;D :D

Anyway...thanks for viewing...and good luck on your next hunt.

Thanks Dan. I always have a good karma at this place. It brought me so much solace last year going through some rough times.

I guess you got that grass confused with carpet huh Bryce? I think I like it when you cut that grass instead of the carpet! Nice finds again my friend. Keep it going. I am sure this is the beginning of a nice long fruitful season. Congrats... jgas
Thanks jgas. Yep...cutting gras beats the snot out of cutting carpet

Your Barber silver looks really sweet, Bryce
particularly the 1911. Like someone mentioned, it
looks like it was lost in 1911. Congrats on a fine short hunt
and continued success on future hunts. Looking
forward to your posts. Gold Nuggets :icon_jokercolor:
Thanks G.N. Usually the barbers are worn pretty well...but this one was nice. What a shocker when I rinsed it off

Bryce, great hunt! Congrats on those great finds. That 1911 is superb!

I think this is the best time of year to hunt. The ground is supple and moist, easy to dig and great at conductance. The temperatures are cool, no bugs, and the weeds and grass are not high yet.

Keep swingin'. I always look forward to your posts.

HH,

Dr. Ace
Thanks Doc. You're right...my favorite time too. Nice...moist ground with deep signals peeping through. Good luck on your next hunt.

Thanks John. All the parks are pounded here...but there's still some deep stuff...or stuff hiding in the trash.

Thanks MM. I'm set for a while now after this hunt. I know they all can't be like this one...but my fix has been met for a few more days.

Bryce,

After reading sounds like you need to replace more carpet. I happen to be great at ripping out carpet, being that I am close by(Iowa) I could come help, did I mention that I could help you find those injuns too? :icon_pirat:

Great post and can't wait to be able to have a say like that. Thanks for sharing

HH,

Dave
Thanks for responding Dave. This was a rare day for me...but one i like. The next time out will probably be all wheaties and no silver. :tard:

Bryce,

I'm new at this and have yet to find a wheatie, so even weaties would make me do the happy dance. Clad and crushed aluminum cans from the early seventies seem to be the things to find around here. I think I have single handedly dug my weight in crushed aluminum cans already.

Great story though, appreciate the story behind the finds that people post on here. give's us newbies something to hope for.

Dave

Thanks Mark. I had an even better hunt Saturday and need to get it posted...hopefully before i leave for work in an hour.
As for the choir boy pin...I was going to shock Nick and wear it whenever we get to meet and hunt this year...but I broke the pin part off of the back when cleaning ;D
