first your going to have to convert the weight from ounces to troy ounces yes it makes a difference..so 2.1 ounces=1.91406 ozt then you check spot price right now til Monday morning the spot is 12.75 a troy ounces this is for fine silver not sterling most place will only give you up to 75% spot price so you times 12.75x.75 to see what your actual price per troy ounce is which is 9.562 then you times 9.562x1.914 = $18.30 this is melt value..you should hold on to this cause silver will go up in value over time...just right now it is down due to the reccesion...

I almost threw it back down thinking it was junk. It has a tiny .925 on the clasp. You would be surprised what you can find in parking lots.

Its 21 grams. Using this conversion link http://www.metric-conversions.org/weight/gram-conversion.htm it comes to .675 troy ounce.

sigh---heres how to convert sterling to scrap silver ----- 21 grams ( actual weight) x .925 (purity %) = actual pure weight in grams . = 19.425 grams of "pure silver" -- 1 gram = .03215 0f a troy oz. --so 19.425 grams x .03215 = troy weight of --.62455137 of an troy oz x current spot price --($12.75) = $7.9625496 --- ($7.97 worth of silver "rounded up"-- 7.96 "rounded down")

no sweat --most folks scales weigh in grams * so it nice to know how to convert the gross weight of found items made of sterling .925 silver (which means 92. 5 % pure silver)in grams to pure sillver troy oz --- so you can know its current street worth at melt value -- once the wieghing part is is done tag the item with "true wieght at pure" -- then you only have to know the current spot price --to find at what its melt worth is at any time. ---Ivan

the formula is this ---actual weight in grams ---x times --- purity % -- which will equal actual = "pure weight" of the item in grams --once "pure weight" is gotten take "pure grams" x (times) .03215 (since 1 gram equals (.03215) of a troy oz )--which will yeild "true pure weight" in troy oz . --- this times (the "spot" price ) will yeild true worth (melt value of the metal in the item)-- ps works for both silver or gold . note *** most metal dealers may not give full value many shave a bit off the top to play it safe in case the market dips a bit before they move the scrap . (and make extra profiet if it stays the same or goes up in value )
