Hi
I have just cleaned a silver coin found at a beach and thought it would be nice to share it on the forum.
It is a coin minted for use in the Malay area during Queen Victorias reign.
I have included before and after pics for your enjoyment.
Coin found with Explorer II and Coiltek Joey coil, coin was in area of beach in black sand, littered with lots of old trash (copper nails, brass shards, chelated iron etc)
Thanks for looking
David

Excellent coin. What method did you use to clean it?

A couple of members have asked me how I cleaned the coin, First step Placed saucepan on stove simmered coin in 2" water & shards of aluminium foil changed water used tooth brush on coin between foil and water replenishment (three times)
Step 2 Soaked in mixture of lemon juice & Baking soda for 24 hours.
Brushed coin with toothbrush regularly. Repeated this stage as required.
Finished off with silver cleaner.
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR VALUABLE COINS
I use this method for silver coins found in this condition with hard sulpherised crust & where obvious environmental damage is already present.

That is a real cool find, one of my fav. world coins. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's .925 silver... You should try electrolysis on those beach silver coins. Awesome find !!

Keep @ It and HH!!
