It's a hard picture to see and a clear picture of the back would help date it.

The singing clown is a giveaway to mid-nineteenth century when, before the phonograph or radio, the day's popular songs were spread across the country by singing clowns who sold the lyrics to other singers after the show. This quickly spread music across the country and was an important element in musical culture.

If that circle behind the figures held a cloth it may also be a perfume button, a common and popular mid 1800s item that protected women's clothing from staining due to the day's perfume being oil based - a drop on the button did the trick. Several of these buttons went to war with men who could smell them and be reminded of ole girl back home.

Nice find,

I have a couple questions. Is the button really large. Like a half dollar in size. Is the part in the center pushed down in. And does it look like it has a rope border around the rim with solid shank on the back.

I say this because my brother I swear found the exact button sunday at a new old foundation we found. It dated to 1876 or before. It's a really cool button. I'd say pre 1900 for sure.

This c. 1880's button, sometimes listed under the title "True Love," depicts the French pantomime characters Pierrot and Pierette. The one shown below is currently offered on eBay for $9.99. Other varieties exist, including one in black glass.
