Well I found my oldest coin so far today. 1826 half cent which was only 1/2 inch deep. Local park, small town, Illinois, with the DFX. Not the best shape and on top of that I knicked it with my digging tool. Being a half inch deep, I got lazy and just popped it out without much care. Another lesson learned by this rookie.

Looks like it had some nicks before you found it, still an awesome find! Many of my oldest finds have been in the shallow depths, too... I have nothing that old!!!

Congrats Doug on an outstanding find. You would think that the half cent would be more common than it is, but you will find a lot more large cents than the halfs. Great job and great coin....Lance
