Question from the newbie...???

I found a spoon tonight in my mothers yard...after cleaning it ..I see it says Solid ALASKA Silver...
But the problem is ..The spoon is really tarnished...Could it have been solid silver plated.?

not and expert in the field but from my experience, all silver will tarnish, depends what you mean by tarnish, air oxidation discoloring to recovered from the ocean, covered crusty black

it could be tarnished due to your local soil conditions.

All silver, solid or plated gets tarnished a blackish color. Just hit it up with some silver polish and it will be good as new

Unfortunalty, your spoon is not sterling silver. I did a little research, and found this link:

It's talked about in the first question. Although not sterling, it may be old enough to be collectible, if it cleans up nice. Sorry about that! HH!
