Colonial Site Gives Up More Goodies!

Hello Everyone!

It's been a while since I posted -- between becoming a dad and going self-employed this year my time is limited lately. It's tough enough finding time to hunt, let alone post my finds! Luckily I do get out, and have been doing pretty well so far this year.

The other day I hit one of my regular colonial spots, which is definitely a cool-weather spot (tick infested in summer), so I figured I'd give it one last go. It turned into yet another one of those "like a different spot" stories. I focused on a 50x50 patch of woods I'd hunted many times before, yet still managed to have the best day I've ever had at this particular location. Here's the inventory:

• 1786 1 Reale
• No-date English Halfpenny (looks like a Charles II, c. 1740s-1750s)
• No-date Shield Nickel (My first!!!!)
• Two IHs: One 1902 and one no-date
• Large silver dollar-sized copper/bronze token -- For corset manufacturer Birdsey - Somers Co. (1890s-early 1900s)
• Early 1800s U.S. Navy Button -- Backmark is UK maker Wallis, model No. 2
• Two more buttons, one flat, another with a round, two-circle design
• Two ladies garter clips (found near the corset token)

It'll be my last time hitting that place until late next fall, so this was a great way to go out!

Wow, those are some GREAT finds!! I am amazed that you found so much in an area youve hutned before.

As for Wallis, I recently found a pair of civilian cuff buttons bearing his name. I was told he was Based in England from 1800 til 1828.

A great hunt indeed! Congratulations!!

I was pretty amazed myself. I think the key was focusing on a very small area and going slowly. It's a big patch of woods so you're often tempted to swing maybe a bit quicker than one should.

I just stumbled onto a patch of woods holding a colonial era cellar hole, or so we assume. It has give up about 20 or so coins that are 150-225 years old in an area close to what you have described. I keep tryin to go over it again slowly, but I just cant pull any more deep coins out of it. All the coins were shallow, 2-6 inches. Maybe I need to imitate a statue trying to walk the next time I head there.
