I returned to the site that I found the 1877 Seated Liberty Quarter last week. I searched around the site and found a cellar hole made of bricks; always a good sign. I found a bunch of Wheaties, a 1970 Bermuda penny and some other assorted 20th century things, but the find of the day was the Civil War Infantry Button. The back mark is Steele & Johnson. In eight years of detecting I had not found a CW era button, but this year I have found three! Funny how that happens!

Thanks for looking!

Ironically, my oldest coin find of the day was not the 1923 Wheatie that I found this morning. It was a 1917 Wheatie I got in pocket change this afternoon at the Philadelphia Museum of Art Cafe. When the cashier saw my excitement, she showed me another coin from the cash register that she did not recognize. It was a 1939 Merc that she got from a customer!

It is amazing that these coins are still circulating. The 1917 has obviously been in circulation for the entire time. I have never seen one with so much wear. I could barely get a date!
