Lead Cloth Seal.

It feels so good to get out in the sunshine again!
Been checking out a new field today in Derbyshire for a couple of hours, came across this:








In the field I thought "Yes - my first Roman coin" - but after getting back home and trying to identify it could only see 2 similar things in the books I have - A Celtic Coin else a Medieval Lead Seal Matrix (whatever that might be).
I now know its lead - The letters on the back could be either 'MF' or 'EW' -
Any more information on 'Cloth Seals' would be much appreciated.

It's a small lead piece of a cloth seal. The actual lead seal size is close to a 10 pence coin. HH, Mike

Where would this be attached? On a roll of cloth, small piece of cloth bought off a bigger piece?

Most likely a Lead Token. When you see a cloth seal, you will get what I'm saying.

Its an old style J, the crossed I that is, therefore the IW is a JW. James was a popular name, so it could be James someone?

So its about 17-18th century.

Its in very nice condition - well done
