The H.H. Brown Shoe Company was originally founded in 1928 by Ray Heffernan. The company underwent a name change in 1955, after moving its location to Richland, PA, and it became the Richland Shoe Company. They began productions on cowboy and work boots and were the first to manufacture western safety toe boots, and in conjunction, these boots were the first boots to pass the Class 75 ANSI safety footwear standards. The company also expanded into making harness boots and dress western boots. In 1981, the company expanded again and purchased a larger building in Womelsdorf, PA, to facilitate their growing business. And finally in 1992, after expanding, relocating, and 2 name changes later, the company name was changed to Double-H Boot Company to reflect the tradition of H.H. Brown
