Well i have an odd story for some awesome civil war finds today. I went to my local park that has been around since the 1800's. Not thinking about finding civil war relics. Just wanted to find some old coins maybe. Me and the Ace 250 headed out. Looked around and found a clump of old tall oak trees. They looked old. So off I headed. Got to the trees and put coil to ground. Walking in a straight line got a strong penny signal. Dug and out pops a 3 ringer.. I looked puzzled. 3 ringers in my park..Well kept walking straight line. Another penny signal. Same thing 3 ringer. HUMN. Walked some more bing 10 cents to penny signal. Dug and out popped this heel plate or at least that is what I am calling it. Looks like one. Kept the straight line walking an dug more 3 ringers. So I think I have a little Civil war action in my park. Gonna frequent my spot and see what else I can unearth. Also dug clad and such didn't post that about 5 bucks worth. Awesome day if you ask me. Hope yall like the pictures.

Great finds. Hardly ever see a heel plate that isn't worn badly. Nice bullets too! It never ceases to amaze me how small people were in those days, ie, the size of the heel plate. Most men were from 5'4" to 5'8". There were very few six footers. That's why Lincoln stood out so much. My family had short men and I use to be 5'11" before I broke my back and was the tallest person in my family and wore a size 11 shoe. Men in those days wore shoe sizes 5 or 6 and you can hardly even find those sizes anymore. Monty

Great Finds!

At this point you have two options in that area of the park:

1.  Continue searching in coin mode and dig only the relics that give a coin signal, thereby leaving all the other great finds for someone else

Or

2.  Take your machine out of coin mode, turn down the discrimination, and slowly and methodically dig it all--smaller caliber bullets, buttons, and other great finds.

Nice relics. Love the heel plate

I would follow BuckleBoy's advise and search that area of the park with little or no discrimination.

Yeah Buckleboy. Looks Like I will be in all metal mode on the Ace 250 OR bring out the big gun F75. I will go back out for sure. Thanks for everyones response. I am stoked to have slipped up on this site. Hopefully will find more goodies. Just have to keep a low profile.

Relic mode on the Ace is quite capable--and if these larger items weren't out of range in terms of depth, then anything else that is lighter or smaller should be within range too.

Best Wishes,
