Too me, it looks like you have dug an 1844 Ames gunpowder flask, otherwise know as a "Peace Flask" because of the two shaking hands. I dug one last year in South Eastern Virginia. Many of these were first carried by US troops in the Mexican American War (1846-1848), as well as being used during the Civil War. Union forces, of course, used these during the Civil War, but Confederate veterans of the Mexican American War and the pre-Civil War US Army are know to have carried these into battle.

Welcome to T-net! You my friend have found a Peace Powder Flask...It's in great shape considering that it's been in the ground for 125 plus years. A nice piece of history you got.
