I have not posted in awhile mainly because to good finds have died off and I am preparing to return to the good ole USA. Anyway, I needed a sanity break and swinging my old Bandito around usually does the trick. I plucked nearly 12 Euro and a couple Dollars US from the sand lot playground before moving off to one of my areas that usually pays off in older coins. Not much came up but I did pluck this nice wedding band out of the ground. After photographing the ring I discovered it was engraved with initials and a date of (24.12.34) 24 December 1934 and the hallmark is .900 Gold. Judging from the wear on the engraving I believe the ring was worn for a number of years prior to it's being lost.

Prior to WWII this was an agricultural field and by 1950 was fully developed to house US Soldiers assigned to Frankfurt.

Great Find! Yes, it's closer to 22K ... must be a heavy band. :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

A little research about 900 gold on Google shows that coin gold in Europe and U.S has been 900 while British and Canadian has been 22K.

I've seen postings of Saudi gold jewelry up to 24K on here and a workmate purchased a ring there at 24K. For those unconcerned about durability and wear only the best will do ;D.

Safe trip home.

Awsome find!. Actually they do make jewelry in high karat gold. I have a really nice 41 gram mans bracelet marked .917 (22k).Also a couple of detecting buds have found rings marked 22k or .917, and one guy I detect with has found a 24k mans necklace. All very soft and dense. Here is a personal side note of interest in my 30 years of hunting I have never found a wedding band out of the ground, lots of other great rings and misc pieces, but never a band. Got dozens of them out of the water....guess thats what makes this a great hobby. Again a ring with a date rocks, congrats! Burl
