Made a quick trip to the picnic grove on Sunday. Had planned on having plenty of time for a long hunt, but......it was a Holiday weekend, and an invitation to spend time with family does come first.
So, I got to the grove, and still had the procoil on my Quattro. Now this coil has not been easy for me to get used to. It seems erratic most of the time. I had been out to the fairgrounds on Friday night still trying to learn to use it. It seems to choose numbers and tones at random sometimes, and has been frustrating me. Found rusty metal roofing nail/washer combinations that toned and read like silver!
Anyway, since I only had an hour I decided to just set the sensitivity to auto and swing the procoil.
Within a minute I get a silver tone and id right in the middle of an area I swing over every time I go into the grove.
With more than a little skepticism I dug. Out pops an 1893 O Barber Quarter! The first silver bigger than a dime at the grove, and I found it with the procoil!
Started swinging again, and within ten minutes I get another tone and ID just like the first! This time it's another Barber Quarter, 1894! I was grinning from ear to ear. Thought I better just keep on going over my old ground.
Before I left I had a 1924 merc, and two 1911 wheaties that were in pretty bad shape.
So, in just about an hour I found my first two barber quarters, a merc and a couple of wheaties.
I am also a real believer in the procoil!
Have a great day!
Good Luck,
Mark
